Todd Howard announced that remakes of Fallout 1 and 2 are not planned

The executive producer of the Fallout series, Todd Howard, stated in an interview on the MrMattyPlays YouTube channel that remakes of Fallout 1 and 2 are not in Bethesda’s plans. When asked about potential remakes of the isometric turn-based games that started the series, Howard emphasized that the company’s main priority is to ensure the availability of the original versions on modern platforms.

“I love the question and agree with much of what you said, but our main task is to make sure they remain available,” Howard explained. “On PC, of course, it’s important that they are accessible to players and run properly. We have discussed the possibility of remakes, but our priority is to ensure the availability and functionality of the original games.”

Howard also pointed out that modernizing Fallout and Fallout 2, released in 1997 and 1998 respectively, might strip them of some of their unique charm. “I think it’s important that they load and run well,” he added. “However, I believe that part of the charm of games from that era, including the original Fallouts, lies in their age. Therefore, I wouldn’t want to change that to make the game more modern. The main thing is that the games can be downloaded and played, allowing players to enjoy them as they were originally intended.”
