In May, the game V Rising topped the sales charts in the UK

According to GSD data published by GamesIndustry.biz, which tracks physical and digital sales from most major publishers except Nintendo and 505 Games, V Rising topped the software chart last month. After two years in early access, the game received a full PC release ahead of its upcoming launch on PS5 this week.

Developed and published by Stunlock Studios, V Rising has garnered positive reception from critics, achieving Metacritic scores of 83 and 81, respectively. It surpassed familiar titles like EA Sports FC 24 and Grand Theft Auto 5 in last month’s rankings.

Overall game sales saw a 21% decline compared to May 2023, which saw the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fallout 4, the best-seller in April, dropped to No. 4 in May, trailing Helldivers 2 and Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut.

Speaking of new entries, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door debuted at No. 7 based solely on physical sales, as Nintendo doesn’t disclose digital figures.

On the hardware side, console unit sales in May decreased by 10% from the previous month and nearly 33% year-over-year. PS5 maintained its position as the top-selling console, followed by Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S, according to GfK data.
