SEGA and the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio proudly announced that sales of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth have surpassed 1 million copies in just one week since its release. This figure includes both digital sales and physical shipments to stores.
Thanks to this success, “Infinite Wealth” has become the fastest-selling game in the series. For comparison, the previous installment, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, reached 1.8 million copies sold in 4 years, and the spin-off Judgment, released in 2018, took 2.5 years to reach the million mark.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has also excelled in other aspects. The peak number of online players on Steam has surpassed all records of previous “Yakuza” games, and both critics and gamers have given it high ratings. The game’s Metacritic score is the highest in the entire franchise — 89/100.
In 2021, SEGA decided to change its release strategy for the Yakuza series to increase sales volume. Instead of releasing projects first in Japan and later abroad (and not always with localization to local languages), Infinite Wealth was launched simultaneously in all countries. Judging by the game’s success, it seems that SEGA made the right choice.
