On Tuesday, it was announced that Xbox is shutting down four studios: Redfall developer Arkane Austin, Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks, Mighty Doom developer Alpha Dog, and support studio Roundhouse Games.
During an interview at the Bloomberg Tech conference in San Francisco on Thursday, a representative from Xbox was asked about the reasons behind these closures.
He noted that the decision to close the studios was made to ensure the long-term health of the business.
“It’s always tough to make decisions like these,” he said. “We feel responsible for the games, devices, and services we offer, and we strive to ensure they are available at all times.”
He also pointed out that each studio and team has unique success factors, and decisions to close depend on various criteria.
“Our goal is to ensure the long-term health of our brand and products,” added the Xbox representative.
