Valve has implemented a ban on in-game advertising during The International

Valve has announced new regulations for The International 2024 for Dota 2, prohibiting the mention of sponsors in player names, team flags, and base logos. This decision, revealed on the official MOBA website, is aimed at removing advertising from within the game to enhance the gaming experience.

Valve explained that over the years, features for showcasing teams and players in Dota 2 have increasingly been used not just for representing the teams and players, but also for placing advertising materials. To eliminate distractions and focus solely on the game and its players, the company has decided to ban any form of advertising and sponsorship mentions during The International. This change will affect team flags, base logos, and name tags.

The International 2024 will take place from September 4 to 15 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
