Unity appoints former EA and Zynga executive as its new CEO

Starting May 15, Bromberg will assume the position of CEO, replacing interim CEO Jim Whitehurst, who temporarily filled the role after John Riccitiello‘s departure last October. Whitehurst is now the executive chairman of Unity‘s board.

Previously, Bromberg served as the general manager of BioWare and later led EA‘s global mobile business for four years before leaving the company in July 2016. He then joined Zynga, a leading developer and publisher of mobile games, where he served as executive vice president until 2022.

“I’m excited to join Unity at this new stage of its development,” he said. “I look forward to collaborating with Jim, the board, and the amazing people at Unity to provide the best integrated platform for creators, capture global audience attention, and accelerate the company’s revenue and profitability growth.”

Riccitiello left Unity several weeks after the company faced backlash from developers over controversial monetization plans for its popular game engine. Unity also announced plans to lay off approximately 1,800 employees, or about 25% of its workforce, in the first quarter of 2024.
