After months of speculation, Ubisoft confirmed the remake’s existence last month with a teaser image.
“Speculation around Assassin’s Creed is nothing new, but it’s worth repeating: ‘Nothing is true. Everything is permitted,’” said franchise head Jean Guesdon. “Except in this case—some whispers may carry more truth than usual. Keep your spyglass on the horizon.”
The original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag launched in 2013 and is set in the West Indies during the Golden Age of Piracy (1715–1722). It follows Welsh pirate Edward Kenway, the grandfather of Connor, as he seeks fortune and freedom.
Earlier this year, Ubisoft revealed a new leadership team for the franchise, bringing together key figures behind the original Black Flag. Martin Schelling, Jean Guesdon, and François de Billy will lead the series at Vantage Studios, a newly established studio partially funded by Tencent.
Guesdon previously served as creative director on both Assassin’s Creed Origins and Black Flag, while Schelling and de Billy worked as producers on the pirate-themed installment.
