Resident Evil 9: Requiem brings players back to Raccoon City after 30 years

Capcom has officially revealed the first gameplay trailer for Resident Evil 9, now titled Resident Evil: Requiem, during Summer Game Fest 2025. The game introduces a new protagonist and returns to the ruins of Raccoon City, thirty years after the original viral outbreak.

The main character is Grace Ashcroft, an FBI profiler and daughter of investigative journalist Alyssa Ashcroft, known from the Resident Evil Outbreak series. Grace arrives in Raccoon City to investigate lingering mysteries tied to her family’s past. Though highly trained, her personal trauma adds an unsettling depth to her journey.

Much of the story takes place in the Wrenwood Hotel, a location still bearing the scars of the original catastrophe. As Grace explores the building, she uncovers long-buried secrets and faces grotesque bio-organic threats. The gameplay emphasizes psychological horror, investigation, and survival.

Resident Evil: Requiem supports both first-person and third-person modes and runs on Capcom’s upgraded RE neXt Engine. The result is a more immersive and visually intense experience, with highly detailed environments and terrifying enemy design.

The game is set to release on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Additional gameplay and story footage will be shown during Gamescom 2025.
