Over 14,000 games are now supported on the Steam Deck

The information was provided by the tracking site SteamDB (via Gaming on Linux), which lists 14,023 games compatible with the Steam Deck.

Out of these, 4,607 games have been marked as “Verified” by Valve, indicating they “work great on Steam Deck right out of the box,” while 9,416 games are considered “Playable,” suggesting that they “may require some manual tweaking by the user to play.”

Valve is currently reviewing the entire Steam catalog and assigning each game one of four ratings designed to indicate how smooth the gaming experience will be on its handheld device.

The other two categories that games can fall into are “Unsupported,” meaning they don’t work on the Steam Deck, or “Unknown,” indicating they have yet to be checked.

Players can visit the Steam Deck Compatibility page, allowing them to log into their Steam account and check which of their games have been tested so far.

For a game to receive “Verified” status from Valve for the Steam Deck, it must pass four tests:

1. Input – “The title should have full controller support, use appropriate controller input icons, and automatically bring up the on-screen keyboard when needed.”
2. Display – “The game should support the default resolution of Steam Deck (1280×800 or 1280×720), have good default settings, and text should be legible.”
3. Seamlessness – “The title shouldn’t display any compatibility warnings, and if there’s a launcher, it should be navigable with a controller.”
4. System Support – “If running through Proton, the game and all its middleware should be supported by Proton. This includes anti-cheat support.”

According to SteamDB, a record 14,535 games were released on Steam in 2023, approximately 2,000 more than the previous year. In the current year, 3,160 games have been released on the digital distribution platform.

Steam also has several promotions planned for early 2024, including its Spring Sale, launching this week.
