After the successful release of the Fallout show on Amazon, the latest game in the franchise attracted a large number of players. On Steam, the number of concurrent players reached a historical maximum: on Saturday, 64,083 players were playing the game simultaneously (according to Steamdb). This broke the previous record set just last week, which was just under 40,000 players.
It’s worth noting that the game was originally released on PC through Bethesda’s own launcher and appeared on Steam only two years after its original release in 2020. The game is also available on PC through Xbox Game Pass, which likely attracted even more players after the success of the TV show than on Steam.
Despite its unstable launch, Fallout 76 has been receiving updates consistently over the years since its release. It introduced several fan-favorite locations from the series, such as the Pitt.
The company announced this week that the Fallout show on Amazon will return for a second season. The excitement surrounding the show contributed to a sharp increase in Fallout game sales: last week, four games from the series entered the top 10 best-selling games in Europe.
