Expanded story, new quests, and deeper orc interactions revealed in Gothic 1 Remake

Following the launch of pre-orders for Gothic 1 Remake by THQ Nordic, IGN has released an exclusive preview showcasing gameplay from the updated version of the cult 2001 RPG and revealing key new details.

According to the preview, the remake will significantly expand and deepen the story. While the core narrative and atmosphere remain faithful to the original, players can expect new storylines and additional quests that offer a better understanding of events in the Valley of Mines.

One such quest featured in the video involves the Water Mage Myxir, a character from the original game. This time, the Nameless Hero will be able to assist him in mastering a new spell, requiring a journey to the coast near the colony.

The preview also confirms that Alkimia Interactive has greatly expanded the role of the orcs. Players will be able to build relationships, complete their quests, and even learn their language—features that were not present in the original Gothic.

Other additions include an increased number of female characters and new gameplay mechanics such as climbing. At the same time, the developers are not aiming to reinvent the game entirely. Instead, they plan to preserve the slow-paced action RPG feel of the early 2000s, while enhancing it with modern visuals, improved controls, and a more user-friendly interface.

The remake is likely to appeal more to fans of the original rather than a younger audience.

The release of Gothic 1 Remake is scheduled for June 5 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
