EA has revealed new details about the upcoming Battlefield game and showcased the first official concept art

According to fresh insights from Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, the new Battlefield game will unfold in a modern context, in contrast to previous installments that focused on historical wars and the future. The game’s events are set to take place “between 2027 and 2030,” with a storyline centered around a “large private military organization that opposes NATO.” Players can expect locations such as Gibraltar and the USA, along with a new Battle Royale mode that will take place in a tropical region of the USA.

Vince Zampella, the franchise leader, noted that the third and fourth installments serve as models for the new game, and the team aims to achieve the same level of success. One key decision has been the return of the class system, which Zampella believes is foundational to the series. The new game will support 64 players simultaneously, which is fewer than the 128 players in Battlefield 2042.

Active development of the game began in early 2024, and the team is testing the shooter weekly to ensure its quality. The release is expected in 2025.

The development of the new project is being handled by four studios:

  • Criterion Games – responsible for single-player and multiplayer
  • DICE – overseeing multiplayer
  • Motive – working on the single-player game
  • Ripple Effect – developing a new mode
