At CES 2025, AMD introduced the Ryzen 8000G APU series, combining Zen 4 cores with the first desktop RDNA graphics. Now, insider HXL reports that their successor, Ryzen 9000G, will launch in Q4 2025, bringing significant improvements.
What to Expect from Ryzen 9000G?
If the leaks are accurate, the new lineup will be based on the Zen 5 architecture and utilize Strix Point and Krackan Point silicon. The flagship Ryzen 9000G is expected to feature up to 12 cores (4 Zen 5 + 8 Zen 5c) and a Radeon 890M GPU with 16 RDNA 3.5 compute units.
More affordable models could be based on Krackan Point, offering 8 cores (4 Zen 5 + 4 Zen 5c) and a Radeon 860M GPU (8 CU RDNA 3.5).
Additionally, all Ryzen 9000G chips will include an XDNA 2 NPU with 50 TOPS performance, potentially making them the first Copilot+ certified desktop processors.
The Last of Zen 5?
Ryzen 9000G might be one of the final Zen 5 processors, as AMD plans to transition to Zen 6 in 2026. The company is also unlikely to bring Strix Halo to AM5 due to its size and cost.
While AMD has yet to make an official announcement, if the leaks hold true, the Ryzen 9000G series will be a major step forward from Ryzen 8000G.
