Doom and Doom 2 will be released in enhanced versions with a new episode

Before the anticipated announcement at Quakecon, starting today, Wario64 on X discovered a page for the new enhanced editions on Steam.

Update August 8, 2024 / 8:20 PM Doom and Doom 2 are now available on Steam, PSN, Xbox Store, and Nintendo eShop.

The bundle costs $9.99, and players who already own Doom or Doom 2 can download the new enhanced editions at no extra charge on the same platform.

The package includes:

  • Doom
  • Doom 2
  • A new Deathmatch pack with 25 maps
  • Six bonus episodes:
    • TNT: Evilution
    • The Plutonia Experiment
    • Master Levels for Doom 2
    • No Rest for the Living
    • Sigil
    • Legacy of Rust (a new episode created by id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames)

The new editions will use the KEX engine, which is also used for the remasters of Doom 64, Quake, and Quake 2.

This will provide support for 16:9 format, 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution on all platforms, and up to 120fps in 4K on some hardware.

Players will be able to choose between the original soundtrack and a new arranged soundtrack by Andrew Hulshult, known for his music in Brutal Doom and the Ancient Gods expansion for Doom Eternal.

The new edition will also support cross-platform multiplayer for up to 16 players in both Deathmatch and co-op mode.

As of now, the enhanced versions of Doom and Doom 2 have not been officially announced, but their presence on Steam and the likely announcement at Quakecon suggest that the release is imminent.
