Official: Riot Games announces visual update for Malphite in LoL

Riot Games is working on a visual overhaul of Malphite in League of Legends. The game’s director, Pu “Pupulasers” Liu, discussed this in a blog post, confirming the rumors.

The developers are experimenting with porting the character model from LoL: Wild Rift to the PC version. If successful, this rework will allow for quicker updates to the appearances of older champions, making them look as fresh as they do in the mobile version.

The visual update for Malphite is an experimental project. Given the vast number of champions in League of Legends, we prefer to gradually update characters. The staged update approach has proven successful with champions like Jax, and we aim to continue this method. Using Malphite as an example, we plan to assess how effectively we can transfer champion models from League of Legends: Wild Rift to PC. While not all skins are available in both versions of the game, some will need to be created from scratch. We hope that this method will expedite the process of visually enhancing champions in League of Legends.

Pupulasers added that there is no release date for Malphite’s visual update yet. It might not even make it to the main servers if the developers encounter issues. However, if the experiment succeeds, it could be applied to other champions as well.
