As demonstrated on TikTok by Nickeh30, there are several free vehicles in Fortnite that can be found in the base free-to-play version of the game or unlocked without spending money, and it is easier to kill drivers in these vehicles compared to paid ones.
In his video, Nickeh30 shows how the Whiplash car, available for free in the game, has a large windshield, allowing players to sit in the passenger seat, lean out the window, and kill the driver by shooting through the windshield.
He then demonstrates this with several other free cars, including the Werewolf, Scorpion, and Masamune, by getting into the passenger seat of each and killing the drivers by shooting through the windshield.
However, when he switches to the passenger seat of the Samurai, a car that can only be acquired with real money, he shows that the much smaller windshield makes it harder to see the driver, let alone kill them.
“While it’s still possible to hit your opponent, it’s much more difficult than with these ‘pay-to-lose’ cars,” he says.
The difference in windshield sizes has effectively created a “pay-to-win” situation, something Epic had claimed would never happen in Fortnite.
As a result, the company provided a statement to Kotaku saying that they are aware of the issue and are working on a solution.
“We’re aware of the issue and have a fix planned for an upcoming build,” the company said.
It is not yet clear whether this means the windshields will be completely changed or if some other adjustment will be made to make it easier to kill drivers in paid cars or harder to kill drivers in free ones.
