Two new executive directors are joining Sony’s PlayStation leadership instead of Jim Ryan

Hermen Hulst, former head of PlayStation Studios and Guerrilla Games, has been appointed as the CEO of Sony’s new Studio Business Group. He will be responsible for PlayStation content and adapting franchises for film and television.

Hiroshi Nishino, previously Senior Vice President of SIE’s Platform Business Group, will now serve as CEO of SIE’s Platform Business Group, overseeing technology and commercial operations.

Interim CEO of SIE, Hiroki Totoki, will also take on the role of Chairman of SIE, with Hulst and Nishino reporting to him and collaborating closely, Sony announced.

“Sony Interactive Entertainment is a dynamic business offering incredible entertainment opportunities through a combination of content and technology,” said Totoki.

“These two leaders will set the strategic direction to deepen engagement with current PlayStation users and expand the audience,” he added.

Nishino commented, “We will continue to unite players and creators through world-class products, services, and technology. It is a great honor for me to be appointed to such an important role alongside Hermen.”

Hulst stated, “I am thrilled to lead the Studio Business Group and continue the success with PlayStation 5, preparing for the future.”

This comes after the departure of Jim Ryan, CEO of SIE since 2019, who retired in March 2024.
