Ubisoft is set to release Update 1.0.2 for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, marking the game’s largest patch to date since its launch late last month. The update introduces highly requested gameplay improvements, quality-of-life upgrades, and enhanced visuals for PlayStation 5 Pro players.
Among the standout additions is the return of the “follow path” feature, allowing mounts to automatically follow roads to marked destinations — a favorite mechanic from previous AC titles. Horse movement speed in cities has also been increased for smoother traversal.
Players will now be able to reset Mastery Nodes in the skill trees of both Naoe and Yasuke, enabling more flexible character builds. Additionally, multiple items can now be sold or dismantled at once, whether at a merchant or the Hideout’s Forge — a long-awaited time-saver.
Another useful tweak: holding the Options button will now instantly bring up the Investigation Board, reducing menu navigation time.
For PS5 Pro users, the update introduces PSSR (upscaling) and Raytraced Specular reflections in Balanced mode. Ubisoft says this will bring the game’s visuals closer to Quality mode fidelity, offering a richer visual experience while maintaining performance.
Other improvements include:
- Removal of the 30fps frame cap in the Hideout while in Performance mode on consoles.
- Boss fight rebalancing for better pacing.
- Enhancements to Double Assassinations.
- Increased responsiveness for Naoe in certain scenarios.
- A large set of bug fixes and technical optimizations.
Creative Director Jonathan Dumont emphasized Ubisoft’s commitment to post-launch improvements, stating the team is “always listening” to feedback. He also hinted that a new harder difficulty mode may be coming in future updates.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows has had a strong launch, reaching over 2 million players in just a few days — outperforming the debuts of both AC Origins and Odyssey. Critical response has also been largely positive, with Eurogamer praising the game as “majestic in scope” and “impressive in detail.”
