GSC Game World, the developer of Stalker 2, has released a 90-minute documentary dedicated to completing the game during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Initially, the game was set to be released in late 2022, but when the full-scale war began in February of that year, development was put on hold. Part of the team had to relocate to a new office in the Czech Republic, but despite this move, production faced numerous delays.
Despite the challenges, Stalker 2 is now scheduled for release on November 20, and the documentary, titled War Game: The Making of Stalker 2, sheds light on the development process amid the war.
The film was created in partnership with Xbox and directed by Andrew Stephan, who previously worked on the four-hour documentary about Xbox called Power On.
Andrew Stephan commented: “This film is not just about the hardest game development in history. It’s about resilience and the unyielding human spirit in the face of unimaginable challenges.”
Stalker 2’s creative director, Mariia Grygorovych, added: “Stalker 2 is the most challenging and important game of my life. It was created in the context of the pandemic, relocation, cyberattacks, and, above all, the war tearing our homeland apart. This is our story, and the world needs to know it.”
