Square Enix President Takashi Kiryu has announced a restructuring of the company’s European and American offices, aiming to build a leaner, more agile overseas operation.
Full details will follow later, but layoffs are confirmed, and remaining staff will spend more time in the office.
No exact headcount was disclosed. However, a London-based employee told VGC that nearly 140 roles there—spanning IT, marketing, publishing, sales, QA, business planning, and more—are at risk.
All Square Enix Europe staff, external development and marketing studios, and Japan-based comms support teams were warned they’re in the crosshairs.
The overhaul is projected to save over $19.6 million annually.
This marks the second straight year of cuts in Western divisions. During a Thursday conference call, Kiryu reportedly admitted last year’s overseas restructuring fell short of goals.
