Rumors hint at an imminent announcement of a new God of War installment

According to new reports circulating on social media, the next entry in the God of War series could be revealed as early as this month. While Sony and Santa Monica Studio are currently working on a God of War Trilogy Remake, insiders suggest there is also a separate, unannounced project that may be unveiled in the near future.

These rumors come during an especially active period for the PlayStation franchise. Shortly after the February 12 State of Play, Sony unexpectedly released God of War: Sons of Sparta, a metroidvania-style prequel to the series. The game explores the trials of a young Kratos on his journey to becoming the fearsome Spartan warrior. Despite mixed reviews, the title proved to be a commercial success, landing in the top 20 best-selling games in the U.S. for February.

As with any rumor, caution is advised—but the Ghost of Sparta may soon return to the spotlight. In the April 10 episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, host Tom Henderson claimed he had heard about a potential announcement of a new mainline God of War installment as early as April. He also clarified that this project is not the God of War Trilogy Remake, which was officially confirmed during the February 12 State of Play.

Original Kratos voice actor Terrence T.C. Carson earlier mentioned that he would reprise his role as the Ghost of Sparta in the remake, though he noted that development is still in its early stages. As a result, fans shouldn’t expect to see the God of War Trilogy Remake anytime soon.

Other rumors align with statements from insider NateTheHate, who suggested that the next State of Play could take place on April 16, though he emphasized that the date has not been confirmed. If true, the new God of War project could be showcased during that presentation. For now, Sony has yet to announce an official date, leaving fans waiting for updates.

Beyond a potential God of War reveal, the upcoming State of Play may also feature other PS5 exclusives. Insomniac Games has previously said it plans to share new details about Marvel’s Wolverine in spring 2026. With the game scheduled for release on September 15, the studio still has time to reveal more information.

Additionally, Sony and Amazon are working on a God of War TV series based on the Norse saga, with production having started in February 2026. While the first looks at Kratos and Atreus have already been shown, a release window has yet to be announced. With both new games and a TV adaptation on the horizon, God of War fans may soon have plenty to look forward to.
