According to sources cited by MP1st, Bethesda’s parent company is now aiming to release a PlayStation 5 version of Starfield sometime between March and mid-June 2026. The port has yet to be officially announced.
One of the reasons for the delay, the report claims, is the underperformance of the game’s first DLC, Shattered Space, which debuted in September 2024, roughly a year after Starfield’s original launch on Xbox Series X/S and PC. The expansion received mixed critical feedback and was met with largely negative user reviews.
Although Microsoft’s roadmap could shift, current plans reportedly involve launching the PS5 version in tandem with the game’s second major expansion and a set of quality-of-life improvements designed to address early criticisms.
MP1st also notes that an announcement at this month’s Gamescom is unlikely.
Rumors about Starfield arriving on PS5 have circulated ever since Microsoft outlined its updated Xbox strategy back in February 2024, which included bringing more first-party titles to other platforms, including PlayStation and Nintendo.
So far, that shift has already seen games like Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded make their way to additional consoles. Newer titles, such as Doom: The Dark Ages, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Forza Horizon 5, are also following suit.
Xbox chief Phil Spencer has reinforced this multiplatform direction, stating there are “no red lines” when it comes to which Xbox games can release elsewhere. In early 2024, Spencer openly acknowledged that limiting titles to Xbox platforms “doesn’t work” as a sustainable strategy.
Lastly, speculation suggests that Starborn may be the name of Starfield’s upcoming second expansion, following the discovery of a Bethesda trademark filing last year.
