Pokémon Champions focuses on the competitive side of battling, bringing back familiar mechanics, abilities, and moves from the mainline Pokémon games. Players will face off against each other online, relying on strategy and skill to win.
The game follows a “free-to-start” model, with an optional Starter Pack available for purchase. This bundle includes extra Pokémon storage, the Battle! (Trainer Battle) track from Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, as well as Teammate and Training Tickets to help build your team.
Additionally, players will be able to purchase a Premium Battle Pass and a membership for extra in-game benefits.
According to The Pokémon Company, Pokémon Champions will be playable on Nintendo Switch 2, featuring enhanced visuals through a free update available at launch.
Key Features:
Pokémon Battles
The core experience revolves around online battles against Trainers worldwide. Players can compete in Single Battles (1v1) or Double Battles (2v2), assembling a team of six Pokémon. Strategic elements include switching Pokémon mid-battle, using Mega Evolution, and taking advantage of type matchups. Every decision can impact the outcome.
Recruiting Pokémon
There are two main ways to obtain Pokémon:
— Connect to Pokémon HOME to transfer creatures from the RPG series and Pokémon GO.
— Receive one random Pokémon per day, available for a limited time.
Players can also spend Victory Points (VP) to recruit additional Pokémon or unlock them permanently.
Online Modes
The game offers several modes:
— Ranked Battles for climbing the competitive ladder;
— Casual Battles with no impact on stats;
— Private Battles via room IDs;
— Seasonal Online Competitions with rotating rules.
Victory Points (VP)
VP can be used to upgrade and customize Pokémon, including adjusting moves, abilities, stats, and Natures. Players can also spend VP in the shop on held items, Mega Stones, music tracks, and trainer customization options such as outfits and Poké Ball throw styles.
Previously announced by The Pokémon Company, players will be able to transfer Pokémon via Pokémon HOME. While a full compatibility list hasn’t been confirmed, references to games like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and mobile apps suggest that most currently available Pokémon will be usable in the game.
