DICE, in collaboration with several partner studios, is actively working on the next installment in the Battlefield franchise. While closed multiplayer tests continue as part of the Battlefield Labs initiative, a new wave of insider information has surfaced — this time concerning the game’s story campaign.
Although the campaign is still in development, dataminers have discovered references to one of its missions within the game files. According to the leak, the mission takes place in Gibraltar, which comes under attack by a coalition force known as Pax Armata. The player takes on the role of a soldier in Dagger 1–3, a unit operating under NATO and the UK, alongside a British special forces team called Lancer.
The mission begins with an amphibious landing, coastal mine clearing, and preparation of a beachhead for allied vehicles using AAV7 transports. Players will then move through historic tunnels dating back to the Great Siege of Gibraltar, ultimately tasked with destroying the enemy’s air defense system to clear the skies for allied air support.
Earlier reports suggested the campaign’s development faced multiple setbacks: the first version was scrapped entirely, and the project was passed between several studios. As a result, the story component is reportedly lagging behind schedule. Early estimates suggest the campaign will offer around six hours of gameplay, in line with modern shooter standards.

Back in 2023, the budget for the next Battlefield game (believed to be Battlefield 6) was reportedly set at $400 million, with costs only increasing since then. Publisher Electronic Arts aims to attract up to 100 million players, aided by two free-to-play modes — one similar to Warzone, and another entirely new format called Gauntlet.
However, developers are said to be concerned about the high expectations, as previous Battlefield titles have never reached such a massive audience.
