Mindseye launch marred by bugs, criticism & controversy

Mindseye, the debut action-adventure from Build A Rocket Boy—a studio founded by former Rockstar producer Leslie Benzies—launched on June 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Expectations were high, but feedback has been overwhelmingly negative. On Steam, the game holds a “Mostly Negative” rating, with over 500 reviews complaining of game-breaking bugs, frequent crashes, poor optimization, floating NPCs, and exploding cars.

Early previews reinforce this sentiment: critics describe the game as a “broken mess,” citing stiff driving mechanics, shallow AI behaviors, and a sparse open-world despite praise for cutscene animations.

To make matters worse, two top executives departed just days before launch. Meanwhile, co-CEO Mark Gerhard publicly accused coordinated “bot farms” and unspecified external forces of orchestrating a negative campaign against the game.

Players report sluggish performance even on high-end PCs, while console versions lock at 30 FPS and suffer from control clunkiness. Some reviewers recommend delaying purchase until substantial patches roll out. Meanwhile, the studio promises a day-one patch to address critical issues.
