Kojima Productions announces Death Stranding isolations animated series for 2027

Kojima Productions, headed by Hideo Kojima, has made the announcement for a new entry in the Death Stranding universe: Death Stranding Isolations, a hand-drawn 2D series for Disney+ releasing in 2027. The series will tell an all new story within the Death Stranding universe which will follow a young man and woman — names and details are not yet provided — as they deal with the theme of isolation in North America while Sam Bridges is trying to reconnect the continent.

The plot of this show is a world that is moving toward a collapsing state, with an old man seeking salvation beyond Bridges’ path, a female warrior looking for endless conflict, a boy tied to a grudge toward Bridges, and a girl that embraces solitude. Ultimately, the fates of each character come together in a moment where humanity is poised at a place of reconfiguration, offering a new lens into the franchise.

Takayuki Sano (Attack on Titan: The Final Season, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Jujutsu Kaisen 0) will be directing the project and Ilya Kuvshinov (Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2045) will be doing character development. Kojima is listed as executive producer and has said this project should be grounded in the themes of isolation, connection, and survival that are prevalent in Death Stranding.

This project is distinct from the previously announced animated movie based on Death Stranding, called Death Stranding: Mosquito, and from the live action movie from A24. Players will have various avenues to enjoy new, unique stories from the Death Stranding franchise.
