By the end of this week, the loading speed of YouTube on desktop computers may decrease by up to 40%, and by the end of next week, it could drop by up to 70%. This measure will only affect the desktop versions, while mobile connections will remain unaffected for now.
According to representatives of Roskomnadzor, the “degradation” of YouTube is a necessary step, not directed against Russian users, but against the administration of the foreign platform. YouTube continues to ignore and violate Russian legislation, prompting these actions.
Roskomnadzor emphasizes that the future of YouTube in Russia depends solely on its administration. If YouTube’s administration does not change its policies and start complying with Russian laws, its prospects in Russia look bleak. Meanwhile, alternative platforms such as Rutube and VK Video are actively developing and could become worthy replacements for YouTube.
Russian residents should be prepared for possible changes in YouTube’s performance on their desktop computers in the near future and consider using other video platforms for content consumption.
