The new role-playing game from Sega, titled Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, has topped the latest Japanese physical chart. Over the first weekend, it garnered 180 thousand buyers on physical media for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, as reported by Famitsu.
This result surpasses the sales of the seventh installment in the series, which debuted on PlayStation 4 with a circulation of 156 thousand copies in 2020.
Meanwhile, the new fighting game Tekken 8 made its debut in Japan with the least successful sales in the entire history of the series, attracting only 20 thousand buyers on physical media.
Even if we assume that half of the circulation is due to digital sales of the project (which cannot be stated with certainty), the overall result is still insufficient to surpass the success of Tekken 7 and previous releases.
Nevertheless, the decline in the series’ popularity in Japan has long been known to Bandai Namco. However, this does not prevent Tekken from reaching new heights worldwide.
