IEM Kraków 2026: G2 and Spirit secure playoff spots as NAVI and FURIA fight to stay alive

The opening matches of the IEM Kraków 2026 group stage have already determined the first playoff contenders and delivered several unexpected results. In Group A, G2 and Spirit secured early qualification, while Natus Vincere, FURIA, and FUT were pushed into the lower bracket.

G2 kicked off their campaign with a confident 2–1 victory over FUT. Despite dropping the opening map Mirage 9:13, Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač’s squad responded in style, taking both Dust2 and Ancient by identical 13:9 scorelines. The win booked G2 a playoff spot and set up a clash with Spirit for a direct place in the semifinals.

Spirit continued their dominance over NAVI, extending their head-to-head record against the Ukrainian side to an impressive 11–2. The series ended 2–0 in Spirit’s favor, featuring a dramatic overtime win on Mirage where donk played a decisive role. On Dust2, Spirit maintained full control throughout the map, leaving NAVI with little room to respond. Natus Vincere now drop to the lower bracket, where they will face FURIA in a rematch of the Budapest Major quarterfinal.

Group B saw one of the biggest surprises of the day, as Turkish side Aurora sent Falcons to the lower bracket after a tense three-map series. While NiKo and m0NESY delivered solid performances, Aurora proved more composed in the crucial moments, with newcomer soulfly emerging as the standout player of the matchup. Falcons will now fight to keep their tournament hopes alive.

MOUZ also enjoyed a strong start, defeating NRG on both Dust2 and Ancient to secure a place in the upper bracket. Although the North American team showed promise early on each map, they were unable to maintain momentum, allowing the European lineup to take control of the series.

In Group A’s lower bracket, FURIA narrowly avoided an early exit by overcoming The MongolZ. The Brazilian side found themselves on the back foot but mounted an impressive comeback on Inferno before completely dominating Nuke. YEKINDAR delivered a standout performance, producing one of the best LAN maps of his career, though FURIA’s overall form this season still raises questions.

With the competition in Kraków gaining momentum, the remaining playoff spots and eliminations will be decided in the coming days. Based on the early matches, the battle for progression looks set to remain intense until the very end.
