Flappy Bird returns: new version of the game to launch in 2025

Flappy Bird, the iconic mobile game originally released on iOS in May 2013, is set to make a comeback on smartphones. The game skyrocketed in popularity in January 2014, becoming the most downloaded app on the App Store and earning its creator, Dong Nguyen, tens of thousands of dollars in daily ad revenue. However, by February of the same year, Nguyen decided to pull the game due to concerns over its addictive nature.

Now, a group of fans, known as the Flappy Bird Foundation, has acquired the game’s trademark and is preparing to relaunch it. The new Flappy Bird is expected to release on iOS and Android in 2025, featuring updated gameplay with new characters and modes, including a basketball-themed mode where players fly through hoops, an EZ mode for beginners, and a rivals mode for up to 100 players.

“We are beyond excited to bring back Flappy Bird and offer a fresh experience that will keep players engaged for years to come,” said Michael Roberts, the chief creative officer of Flappy Bird Foundation. Kek, developer of Piou Piou, who is also part of the team, added: “Today marks a milestone not only in gaming but for me personally. It’s incredible to see the influence Piou Piou has had on developers and millions of players worldwide.”
