Far Cry 3 is finally receiving 60 FPS support on consoles at no additional cost to players. Ubisoft has confirmed that an update for the Classic Edition will launch on January 21, bringing enhanced frame rates to modern platforms.
The news broke following a trailer published by Sony on January 18, showcasing gameplay with improved smoothness and confirming the patch release date. The studio emphasized that Classic Edition is included with Ubisoft+ Classics, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium subscriptions, and the update will be completely free.
Before the trailer’s release, the Far Cry team hinted that the 60 FPS treatment wouldn’t be limited to just the third installment’s classic version. A cryptic social media post containing a puzzle led gamers to spot references to the spin-off Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic and Far Cry Primal. This suggests the update could potentially extend to multiple titles in the franchise.
Far Cry 3: Classic Edition launched in 2018 as a remaster of the original 2012 release. Throughout its lifespan, it has been capped at 30 FPS, making this 60 FPS upgrade a long-awaited improvement for console players.
While the trailer officially confirms the update for PlayStation, Ubisoft has indicated that Xbox Series X|S and likely PC will receive similar enhancements.
