Elon Musk Wants Grok AI to Face the World’s Top League of Legends Team

Elon Musk has put forth a challenge to the best League of Legends team globally, alleging that his AI model Grok 5 could potentially rival them and perhaps even win against them.

Musk stated that the match would be played under the same conditions as a typical game of League of Legends between two human teams.

Musk’s challenge involves the following limitations for Grok 5’s testing:
The AI will only have access to the information presented on the screen (in other words, it will not have the same level of access to game data as human players) and its field of vision will be restricted to what an average player would be able to see (i.e., the maximum human visual capacity).

Additionally, Grok 5’s reaction speed and mouse clicking speed will be restricted to that of a human player.

Musk believes that Grok 5 will be able to learn how to play any game based solely on the rules and by trial and error.

Grok is an AI chatbot created by xAI (Musk’s new venture) that allows users on X to chat with the bot. The fifth generation of Grok is scheduled to be released at the beginning of 2026 and is being developed by Musk’s team as the most capable AI currently available.

In addition to the upcoming challenge Musk has issued to the top LoL team, there have been other well-known competitions between bots and humans in the gaming industry. The International 2017 saw the debut of a bot developed by OpenAI that defeated Danil “Dendi” Ishutin, winning the series 2 games to 0.
