Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree – Nightreign game director Junya Ishizaki revealed that he personally defeated all the DLC bosses solo and without using any relics. In an interview with Polygon, he said this approach was meant to prove that solo play is viable, even though Nightreign is designed with co-op in mind.
Ishizaki acknowledged that some players find solo gameplay challenging. In response, FromSoftware released a balance patch aimed at making the experience more accessible for solo players. The update includes a one-time automatic revival during boss fights and increased rune rewards.
While Nightreign was built to support three-player co-op, Ishizaki wanted to ensure that every boss encounter could be completed without assistance. His accomplishment has already inspired part of the community to take on similar solo challenges.
The Nightreign update is now available and continues to receive praise for its design, while also drawing criticism for its difficulty in single-player mode.
