Baldur’s Gate 3 now restricts console players to a maximum of 100 active mods

Larian Studios has implemented a new restriction on the console versions of Baldur’s Gate 3, limiting players to 100 active mods. This change was made to address issues reported by players, such as slow loading times and game crashes when using more than 100 mods.

In a blog post, Larian explained, “Now that there are more than 100 mods available to download on console, we need to have a serious chat. Who plays with more than 100 mods in a single save, you might ask? Well, as it turns out, there’s a handful of you. Unlike PC, consoles can only juggle so many files at once. The more mods you have installed, the quicker this file limit is reached.”

To prevent further issues, a hotfix was rolled out to enforce the 100-mod limit on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. Larian recommends installing only the mods that players will definitely continue using to maximize stability.

Players who already have more than 100 mods enabled on a console save will not be able to load it until they reduce the number of active mods. For those using cross-saves between PC and console, it’s advised to disable excess mods on the PC version to continue accessing the cross-save on the console.

For players without access to the PC version, Larian is working on another fix to allow access to console saves that were disabled due to the update. This additional fix is expected to be released soon.
