The 32-player online party game for PC and mobile had been available in select regions for months and was initially expected to launch globally last winter, before being pushed to May 8. In April, Sega announced yet another delay, citing the need for more time to implement new gameplay modes.
Now, those updates appear complete — Sonic Rumble will officially launch on November 5 for PC (via Steam), iOS, and Android.
Set in Dr. Eggman’s Toy World, the game lets players control toy versions of classic Sonic characters, earning skins, emotes, and items along the way. During the soft launch, Sonic Rumble featured multiple limited-time events introducing crossover characters from other Sega titles, such as the wolf from Altered Beast and Opa-Opa from Fantasy Zone.
So far, 157 characters and skins have appeared in the soft launch version, though it’s unclear how many will return in the global release.
Sega also confirmed the game surpassed 1.4 million pre-registrations, unlocking free launch rewards for all players — including 5000 rings, a Happy Chao sticker, a Crystal Chao companion, and special Garnet Knuckles and Movie Sonic skins.
Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka emphasized that Sonic Rumble will not include gacha or pay-to-win mechanics, as they’re unpopular with Western audiences. Instead, the game will use a Season Pass system focused on cosmetic unlocks, plus a Ring Shop where players can trade in-game currency — earned or purchased — for new items.
