According to sources, Xbox is planning to showcase the games Gears and Call of Duty at its summer event

According to information from The Verge, the event is scheduled for Sunday, June 9, at the same time as the Summer Game Fest (and a day before the Ubisoft Forward event).

“As the Xbox strategy continues to evolve within Microsoft, and Choudhry’s departure triggers even greater changes, Microsoft is in the process of preparing for its major summer Xbox show,” wrote journalist Tom Warren.

“I know it’s planned for Sunday, June 9th, and Microsoft is currently planning to announce a new Gears of War game at the show.

“The Gears announcement won’t be the only new Xbox project at the show, which will also include release dates for upcoming Xbox games like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and, of course, a new Call of Duty slated for later this year.”

The Verge report marks the second instance this week when news of a possible Gears of War announcement has emerged.

During the latest episode of the Kinda Funny Xcast, host Parris Lilly speculated that news about Gears 6 would surface in the summer, a prediction seemingly corroborated by the guest of that episode, Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb.

“I’ve heard that some events with Gears 6 might be happening this summer, so it seems to me, Parris, that such a hint sounds right. This is what we can expect.”

Since acquiring the Gears of War IP in 2014, Microsoft has released two main series entries – Gears of War 4 in 2016 and Gears 5 in 2019, both developed by The Coalition – as well as Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and the tactical spin-off Gears Tactics.
