Pokémon to Get Permanent Attraction at Universal Studios Parks

The Pokémon Company and Universal Studios have revealed plans to bring the beloved franchise to their theme parks through a new “interactive experience,” according to an official statement.

The attraction promises a “hyper-realistic experience engaging all five senses” that will immerse visitors in the Pokémon universe in unprecedented ways, officials said.

Universal Studios Japan in Osaka will debut the experience first, with Universal Orlando in Florida following at an undisclosed later date. While Pokémon characters currently appear in USJ parades, stage performances, and retail offerings, this marks the park’s first permanent Pokémon attraction. No launch timeline has been specified.

“Pokémon is one of the most beloved franchises in the world,” stated Mark Woodbury, Universal theme parks executive. “Through this ongoing partnership, we will provide our guests with the fascinating world of Pokémon in an innovative way.”

Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara noted: “In this project, we will continue to create new entertainment unique to theme parks as a rich experience in the real world and continue to provide surprises to everyone around the world.”

The Universal Studios Japan initiative is among several projects unveiled to commemorate the franchise’s 30th anniversary this year.

This development is distinct from PokéPark Kanto, another permanent Pokémon destination slated to open in Tokyo this year. That venue will feature two zones: Pokémon Forest, a walking trail showcasing sculptures from throughout the series, and Sedge Town, housing retail spaces, performance venues, and additional attractions.

The original PokéPark launched in 2005 as a traveling carnival experience, operating in Japan from March through September that year, rather than as a fixed installation within an established theme park complex.
