Battlefield 6 faces player retention crisis as season 2 gets delayed

Despite a promising launch, Battlefield 6 has experienced a dramatic decline in player engagement. Steam data reveals the game has lost over 80 percent of its active player base. Many in the community had pinned their hopes on the second season, originally scheduled for January, which was expected to revitalize the struggling shooter. However, developers have delivered disappointing news.

Electronic Arts has announced that Battlefield 6’s second season will be postponed by nearly a month, now launching on February 17. According to the development team, the additional time is necessary to refine and enhance the planned content.

To maintain player interest during the delay, a smaller update will arrive on January 20. This patch will introduce weekly challenges, bonus progression opportunities, and an extended battle pass. Players can expect new free and premium customization items, including a weapon bundle and an additional vehicle skin.

It’s clear that without consistent content support and substantial updates, any live-service game gradually loses audience attention. This delay may only intensify Battlefield 6’s existing challenges.

Battlefield 6 is available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.
