Nintendo has updated its user agreement, introducing stricter measures against piracy and console modifications. Under the new terms, a Switch console or user account can be permanently banned if any hacking, use of third-party software, or security bypassing is detected.
This is the first such update since 2021 and comes ahead of the anticipated launch of Switch 2. The new agreement specifically prohibits the use of unofficial tools, software, or any activity related to modding or jailbreaking.
Additionally, Nintendo now reserves the right to collect extended user data, including video and audio interactions via the GameChat system, as stated in the updated policy.
These changes are part of Nintendo’s broader strategy to combat piracy. The company has previously taken legal action against emulator developers like Yuzu and websites distributing pirated games and hacking tools.
Users are strongly advised to follow the new rules, as even minor modifications could lead to a complete console ban and loss of access to online services.
