Sony offered refunds to all players who purchased the game. A report also indicates that a culture of “toxic positivity” stifled any potential pushback regarding the game’s direction internally.
According to Kotaku, the game’s director, Ryan Ellis, stepped down last week. Sources familiar with the situation report that Ellis was emotional while addressing staff after the game’s launch when it became clear it would be a major failure. One former developer stated, “Ryan deeply believed in that project and bringing players together through the joy in it.”
Earlier this month, Sony announced plans to take Concord offline, remove the game from sale, and offer refunds to all who bought it, just two weeks post-launch. This news followed reports that the PS5 and PC game may have sold as few as 25,000 copies since its release on August 23.
“Concord fans — we’ve been listening closely to your feedback since the launch of Concord on PlayStation 5 and PC,” Ellis said at the time.
