A Konami producer has described Kojima’s return to Metal Gear as “the dream scenario”

A Konami producer has described Kojima's return to Metal Gear as "the dream scenario"

Noriaki Okamura made these remarks during a live stream on Friday, adding that he doesn’t assume Hideo Kojima and his former colleagues necessarily share his views.

Kojima left Konami in 2015 after a mysterious conflict following Metal Gear Solid 5. He occasionally discusses Metal Gear but no longer controls the brand.

However, tensions between them seem to have eased since then.

When asked about the possibility of original team members returning to work on Metal Gear, Konami producer Okamura said, “It’s not my place to speak for anyone outside the company or assume how they feel about it. Personally, working with Mr. Kojima and the team again would be a dream for me.

“But people move on to new projects and commitments, so that’s our reality. We can’t assume everyone would want to return or rely on them entirely.”

He added, “I don’t think it’s right for us to demand anything from anyone. So, we approach our work with the understanding that our success depends on us and our efforts.”

According to Okamura, “manyoriginal members who worked on Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater are already involved in the upcoming remake. Virtuos is the main external developer for the game.

Okamura himself produced several Metal Gear spin-offs, including Metal Gear Acid 2, Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus, and Metal Gear Survive.

During the Friday live stream, the producer also confirmed that, similar to the recent Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection, Kojima and the original team will be credited in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.

“Since there have been many questions about this, Mr. Kojima and all the original development members are, of course, credited for their contributions,” he said. “They were already credited in the Master Collection and will be acknowledged in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater as well. They bear their part of responsibility for these games too.”

Konami previously stated that Kojima is not involved in the development of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.

Currently, the game designer has a busy schedule, including work on Death Stranding 2, an Xbox game titled ‘OD,’ a new IP with PlayStation, and a Death Stranding movie.
