Valve has unveiled the group stage format for The International 2025 in Dota 2, which will follow the Swiss system, according to the game’s official website.
The 16 teams will be split into two groups of eight.
- Rounds 1–3: Matches will be played within each group.
- Round 4: Teams face opponents from the opposite group.
- Round 5: Matches will be drawn regardless of groups.
Standings will be determined by the following criteria:
- Number of wins;
- Number of losses;
- Map win rate;
- Number of wins by opponents;
- Average win rate of past opponents;
- Coin toss.
One undefeated team and two with a 4-1 record will automatically secure playoff spots. Teams finishing 3-2 will play decider matches against 2-3 opponents, with winners advancing to the main stage. Final playoff seeding will be based on Swiss standings.
The International 2025 will take place in Germany from September 4 to 14. Participants, including BetBoom Team and Team Spirit, will compete for a prize pool exceeding $2.22 million.
