Developer and publisher Gun Interactive has officially announced the end of active support for its multiplayer horror title The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The game, which launched in August 2023 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, will not receive any new updates, DLC, or bug fixes after the upcoming May patch.
In an official statement, the studio said it considers the game “fully realized”:
“We’re proud of what we’ve created and happy to say that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has reached its full potential. From the very beginning, our goal was to stay true to the iconic 1974 film, redefine the asymmetrical horror genre, and bring players into the haunting world of Muerto County — and we feel we’ve achieved that.”
Gun Interactive emphasized that the game was designed not only to be authentic but also to expand the franchise’s universe — telling the story of Maria Flores and her friends, featuring horror legends like Kane Hodder, Barbara Crampton, Scout Taylor-Compton, and Skeet Ulrich, as well as returning fan favorites Bill Moseley and Ed Neal.
The May patch will be the last major update. After that, the game will transition to peer-to-peer matchmaking. However, the developers confirmed that the game will remain available in digital stores and fully playable.
Gun Interactive thanked the community:
“Those who embraced our vision, who experienced the terror and beauty of this world with friends — you keep us inspired to keep doing what we do best: making your favorite horror games.”
