In accordance with information from the publisher, the open beta testing will commence on Wednesday, February 21, at 3 am Eastern Time / 8 am Greenwich Mean Time.
Players with an existing account for Final Fantasy 14 on a different platform will be unable to participate in the open beta, as it is currently exclusively designed for newcomers.
“The open beta testing is available only to those who will be playing Final Fantasy 14 for the first time,” notes Square Enix. “Seize this opportunity to invite your friends with Xbox consoles who have yet to experience the expansive world of Final Fantasy 14 and embark on an adventure together.”
Players who already possess a Final Fantasy 14 license registered on their Square Enix account will be able to play the game after its full launch on Xbox, but they will need to wait for the conclusion of the open beta.
“We ask all players who wish to play Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox with an existing Square Enix account and associated characters to please wait until the full Xbox launch after the conclusion of the open beta test,” states Square Enix.
The publisher plans to fully release the Xbox Series X/S version immediately after the open beta concludes, but the specific date will be determined after thorough consideration. Beta participants will have the option to transfer their data to the final version.
It was officially announced in June 2023 that Final Fantasy 14 would be available on Series X/S, when Xbox leader Phil Spencer made a surprise appearance at the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival in Las Vegas.
According to Xbox, the Series X version of the game will support 4K graphics, and both Series X and Series S versions will benefit from fast loading times.
The Expanded Free Trial, available on PC and PlayStation consoles, will also be applicable on Xbox. This means players can experience the entirety of the base game, A Realm Reborn, as well as its first two expansions, Heavensward and Stormblood, up to level 70 with no time restrictions.
However, once players reach level 70, they will need to pay a monthly fee to continue their journey.
