The Outer Worlds 2 receives glowing early reviews ahead of launch

With just days left until the release of The Outer Worlds 2 from Obsidian Entertainment, early impressions from critics and players with premium edition access have begun to surface — and they’re overwhelmingly positive.

On Metacritic, the game holds a strong 84/100, with no negative reviews so far. Reviewers praise the sequel for successfully expanding on the ideas of the first game, refining its core mechanics, and delivering a faster, more dynamic experience. Despite a few more serious story moments, the sequel retains Obsidian’s signature humor and satirical tone.

Players highlight the game’s deep RPG systems, immersive world-building, and meaningful player choices that genuinely impact the story’s outcome.

“Combat feels more dynamic and entertaining, and side quests are a fireworks show of dark humor,” wrote one Steam user — where the game currently enjoys an 82% positive rating.

Some even call it “Obsidian’s best game since New Vegas.”

On the technical side, The Outer Worlds 2 has also impressed. Players note solid optimization, which is rare for Unreal Engine 5 titles. According to Digital Foundry, only minor shader compilation stutters were detected.

Performance tests by Wccftech confirm that the game runs smoothly:

  • GeForce RTX 5060 handles Full HD comfortably without upscaling;
  • RTX 5070 and RTX 4070 Ti Super deliver over 60 FPS at 1440p.
