Tetris aims to become an Olympic discipline

The Tetris Company envisions Tetris becoming part of the Olympic tradition through Esports Olympic games within the next one to three years, according to CEO Maya Rogers in an interview with Esports Insider.

Maya Rogers stated that Tetris fits the definition of esports perfectly and can appeal to many players due to its family-friendly and universal appeal. However, the company believes that for Tetris to be competitive in the esports arena, it must be more accessible and engage the spectator better through additional features like replays. By adding a replay feature, it will be easier for fans to see how a player performed during a match.

Recently, Red Bull Tetris World Final occurred in Dubai, where Turkish player Fehmi Atalar (19) won first place.

There is still no clarification on what games will ultimately be part of the Esports Olympics. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will run its first Olympic Esports event in 2023. Still, the event will not have major esports titles such as League of Legends, Dota 2, or Counter Strike.
