Team Liquid has announced the signing of legendary chess player Magnus Carlsen. The organization shared the news on social media.
The partnership is tied to the upcoming Esports World Cup 2025, set to take place on July 31 in Saudi Arabia. In December 2024, chess was added to the tournament’s list of disciplines, with a prize pool of $1.5 million. A total of 16 grandmasters will compete in the event.
Magnus Carlsen is one of the greatest chess players of modern times. He held the World Chess Championship title from 2013 to 2022 but chose not to defend it in 2023. Despite this, the Norwegian remains the top-ranked player in the FIDE world rankings.
