Historically, Grand Theft Auto titles have launched on consoles first, with PC versions arriving later. While Rockstar has yet to confirm GTA 6 for PC, it’s widely expected to follow the same pattern after its release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S this fall.
In an interview with IGN, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the growing importance of PC gaming and the company’s approach to platform releases.
“With Civilization 7, it’s available on console, PC, and Switch right away,” Zelnick noted. “For other titles, we don’t always release across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has launched on select platforms first and then expanded to others.”
Zelnick also pointed out that PC gaming has become an increasingly significant part of what was once a console-dominated market, and he expects this trend to continue alongside the arrival of next-gen consoles.
Meanwhile, analysts predict that GTA 6 will break records, with pre-orders alone potentially surpassing $1 billion. Research firm DFC Intelligence estimates that the game will generate $3.2 billion in its first year, doubling GTA 5’s launch revenue in 2013 and far exceeding the expected box office earnings of Inside Out 2 ($1.7bn) and Deadpool & Wolverine ($1.3bn) in 2024.
