Square Enix backs Danish indie studio to bring Its dream game to life

Vaultbreakers, a top-down RPG first announced in January, is now receiving support from Square Enix, which has invested in the game’s developer, BetaDwarf.

Square Enix is always looking for high-quality games and talented development studios,” said Hideaki Uehara, general manager of business development at Square Enix. “When I played Vaultbreakers, I was genuinely excited by the experience of connecting with other players and exploring its rich world. After meeting the team at BetaDwarf and learning about their mission, we decided to support their vision and help bring this game to a global audience.”

Playtests for Vaultbreakers are currently ongoing and will run until July 9, giving players a chance to try the game ahead of its full release. A new trailer is also available.

Founded in 2012, the Copenhagen-based BetaDwarf is known for its previous titles Forced, Forced: Showdown, and the online multiplayer game Minion Masters.

“Partnering with Square Enix gives us access to an incredible mix of knowledge, talent, and resources,” said Steffen Kabbelgaard, CEO and game director at BetaDwarf. “We’re already deep into development on Vaultbreakers, with a passionate community and more than 15 playtests involving over 50,000 players.”

“This support comes at the perfect time,” he added. “It truly feels like the difference between hitting a home run and starting an uncertain journey — we’re incredibly excited about what’s ahead.”
