During its Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, Nintendo announced the release of Switch 2 Editions — upgraded re-releases of existing Nintendo Switch games. These editions feature graphical enhancements, HDR support, improved frame rates, and new features like Zelda Notes, a mobile companion tool with access to the game map, achievements, and more.
Among the confirmed titles is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, though Nintendo has already confirmed that the Expansion Pass DLC will not be included in the Switch 2 Edition. In an official statement to IGN, the company said:
“The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition does not include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass DLC. That DLC is available as a separate purchase.”
Previously released DLC — The Master Trials and The Champions’ Ballad — remains available separately for $20 / £17.99, and players who already own the Expansion Pass will be able to access its content in the Switch 2 Edition.
The upgraded versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will be available at no extra cost for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers or can be purchased individually. All Switch 2 Editions will come on cartridges that include both the game and the upgrade.
So far, six games have been confirmed to receive Switch 2 Editions:
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
- Pokémon Legends: Z-A
- Super Mario Party Jamboree
Each Switch 2 Edition will offer visual and content improvements over the original Switch releases. Players will be able to buy full editions or opt for a standalone upgrade if they already own the base game.
